Director Junichi Taguchi's research was published in FOOD STYLE21 (March 2022 issue)
The March 21 issue (Vol. 2022 No. 3) of FOOD STYLE26 (Food Chemistry Newspaper Co., Ltd.) featured a study by Dr. Junichi Taguchi, director of our clinic, entitled "An investigation into the effect of plasmalogen (PL) granules on improving cognitive function in residents of elderly care facilities."
[Research title]
Examination of the effect of plasmalogen (PL) granules on improving cognitive function in elderly care facility residents
- Single-blind, randomized, crossover controlled study -
This study was conducted as a clinical trial to confirm the effects of Plasmalogen Granules on the core symptoms of dementia and on sleep quality in elderly people who are unable to take conventional Plasmalogen (capsules/soft capsules) due to swallowing difficulties. The following results were observed.
- Even in a group consisting of many very elderly people aged 90 or over, taking Plasmalogen granules showed significant improvements in test item 1. "Self-check of brain performance (brain health)" - "Concentration (XNUMX) brain reaction speed, XNUMX) attention" and "XNUMX. immediate past (short-term) memory."

What is Plasmalogen?
Plasmalogen (PL) is a type of glycerin lipid with antioxidant properties, and is abundant in the nervous, immune, and circulatory systems, making up 50% of the phospholipids in brain neurons in the white and gray matter of the adult brain. It has also been reported that blood PL is reduced in patients with Alzheimer's disease, and that blood PL is reduced by about 40% in elderly people compared to younger people.
