Bleeding gums

Bleeding gums

Causes of bleeding gums

If you notice bleeding from your gums when you brush your teeth, it may be that there is something wrong with your mouth. If your gums are healthy, they will not bleed much when you brush your teeth.

The main cause of bleeding gums is periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a disease in which the tissues that support the teeth become infected with bacteria, and the main symptom is an inflammatory reaction in the gums. Inflamed gums become swollen and soft, and are easily damaged by even the slightest stimulation. This results in bleeding.

About periodontal disease

Bleeding gums

Periodontal disease is the number one cause of tooth loss1)If the condition worsens, not only the gums but also the bones will be destroyed, resulting in the loss of teeth.
Periodontal disease can be broadly divided into two types: gingivitis and periodontitis.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis, as the name suggests, is a relatively mild form of periodontal disease in which inflammation occurs only in the gums. The main symptoms are swelling of the gums and bleeding after brushing.
According to a survey on dental diseases conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, many people experience gingival bleeding, and it is a symptom that most people have experienced.

Periodontitis

Periodontitis is a condition in which bacterial infection has spread to the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Symptoms such as pain when biting, loose teeth, and pus accumulation in the gums appear.

Treatment of periodontal disease

The main purpose of periodontal disease treatment is to remove plaque and tartar, which are breeding grounds for bacteria. We strive to establish a clean oral environment by combining self-care and professional care. In severe cases of periodontal disease, periodontal surgery and periodontal tissue regeneration therapy may be required.

To prevent bleeding gums

Bleeding gums mean that your daily brushing is insufficient. Bleeding may make brushing even more difficult, but try to carefully remove dirt with small brush movements. Of course, there are many stains that cannot be removed by brushing alone, so we recommend that you receive professional care on a regular basis.
