Features of our root canal treatment
Inside the root of a tooth is a tube called a root canal, which contains the dental pulp, which is made up of nerves and blood vessels. Root canal treatment is required when inflammation of the dental pulp occurs due to tooth decay or trauma, or when a bacterial infection occurs inside a root canal where a nerve has been removed in the past.
If root canal treatment is required, it will be performed by a dentist who specializes in root canal treatment.
Classification of root canal treatment
Pulp removal
Pulpectomy is a treatment to remove the infected pulp due to decay or cracks in the tooth. The pulp has a certain degree of defense against external stimuli, but it is performed when it is diagnosed that the tooth cannot be saved due to severe pain.
Infected root canal treatment
Infected root canal treatment is a treatment that is performed when a tooth that has had root canal treatment develops a bacterial infection again. Infected root canal treatment is also performed on teeth whose nerves have died due to severe caries or trauma.
Key points of root canal treatment
The important thing in root canal treatment is to sterilize the inside of the root canal and prevent the invasion of new bacteria. Various devices, instruments and techniques are used to achieve this treatment.
Rubber dam moisture control
Special rubber bands and instruments are used to isolate the teeth to be treated, preventing infection through the intrusion of saliva. It also prevents the instruments used during treatment from being swallowed and disinfectant from leaking into the mouth.
Stereo microscope (microscope)
By magnifying the inside of the root canal with a microscope, it is possible to find root canals that cannot be seen with the naked eye and remove the source of infection, improving the accuracy of treatment. In addition, the affected area can be cut with pinpoint precision, preventing excessive cutting of the tooth. The success rate of treatment is also thought to be higher than when it is performed with the naked eye alone.
For successful root canal treatment
Some root canals have complex shapes, such as branches and curves, so it can be difficult to completely form and clean the inside of the root canal.
It is impossible for us to see any bacteria left behind in the root canal with our eyes, and if any lesions are left behind, this treatment carries the risk of leading to recurrence.
For this reason, at our clinic, we use a microscope (a magnifying device like a microscope) for root canal treatment, and we make every effort to sterilize the inside of the root canal as much as possible. Furthermore, we take X-rays at regular checkups after treatment to monitor the progress.
